Germany, Austria, & Switzerland Bucket List

2/13/2022

I thought that I would continue my bucket list post series with one that has to do with the countries of Germany, Austria, and Switzerland. I really am yearning to travel to these three countries because of the wonderful scenery that they offer. I love adventure and these countries seem to appear that way. Traveling here will give me the chance to practice and brush up on my German language skills. Without delaying any further; Willkommen zu meine post.

  • Switzerland
  • Germany
  • Austria

Germany

  • Autobahn
For those who do not know what the autobahn is, this road is a fast paced road in Germany. I just recently discovered that this exists while I was studying about the country. It is virtually speed limitless. I have always wanted to see how fast a car can go. The fairly straight road connects the country together. This road allows quick travel from point A to point B and so forth. The pure reason why I have this on my bucket list is to test a car’s limits. While driving this road I would love to operate a German made car: a BMW, an Audi, or a Volkswagen. Personally, these three manufactures are my favorites.

For the longest time humans have been obsessed with speed, flight, and other modes of travel. Germany is known for its tough built, long lasting cars. There has been record speeds that have taken place on the Autobahn. Visiting the sights where these iconic moments took place is for sure something on my bucket list.

Austria

  • Schönbrunn Palace
This gigantic palace looks gorgeous. While traveling I love to see the variety of architecture this world has to offer. Austria seems to have many of these 'architecture wonders' that just add to the uniqueness of the country. Palaces often keep a history, so that also intrigues me.

Germany

  • Nürburgring
This is a high speed Grand Prix Track in Germany. Speed has always been a fascination with the Germans. This track allows drivers to travel at high speeds and drift around corners. It is like the Autobahn, but it is an actual race car track. Just recently this has been a new addition to my unique car bucket list. Zooming around this track seems like something out of a high speed car dream. Some of these German bucket list items are also featured on my car bucket list post, which can be seen here. Bucket List: Cars.

Switzerland

  • Swiss Alps
Mountains and nature both intrigue my soul. I have always felt that connection with the mountains. Where I am from the mountains are a key feature along with the snow that they bring. I have always wanted to go and see the Swiss Alps. I would love to travel here many times. Being able to see the mountain scape in both summer and winter is a dream. Since I have been to my local mountain regions during both seasons I have been able to see the winter wonderland and the summer paradise. Each season provides a unique change to the surrounding area. Seeing photos of the Swiss alps in both the summer and the winter just makes me want to go there even more.

Germany

  • Volkswagen Theme Park
Okay, I can bet that not a lot of people know about this one. I didn't even know this existed until very recently. The largest car manufacturer in the world is Volkswagen. I love Volkswagen, as I personally drive one. This theme park is located in Wolfsburg, Germany. The Volkswagen theme park is also called die Autostadt. Die Autostadt means the automobile city in German.

The park features rides and two iconic car vending machines. Vending machines will maneuver, lower, and roll out cars with no miles on them. These cars are made by the company Volkswagen. Being able to watch cars being lifted out of these tall cylindrical buildings seems like something out of this world. Autostadt allows a complete view of some of the iconic cars that VW has made. One of my personal favorite VW vehicles is the Kombi because of how unique they looked. The Autostadt is at the top of my car bucket list.

Germany, Austria, & Switzerland

  • Cathedrals
There is not any specific cathedral that I would love to travel to in any of these countries. They all are very beautiful. I would love to hit up as many of these beautiful places of worship as I can. Even though these are not churches that are part of my same religion, I still love to see the wonderful aspects of other people's beliefs. Something that is so wonderful about our world is the uniqueness of everyone and everything. I love learning about different religions so I can get a better understanding of those around me. I have to admit that after traveling to some of the asian temples -the Byodo-In temple in O'ahu, Hawaii- I have been able to understand their beliefs. I love that connection and understanding I can have with others.

Austria, Germany, and Switzerland have a lot of these breathtaking cathedrals that I would love to go and see. If anyone has been to or is from these countries, if you have any suggestions here please let me know. Feel free to comment.

Germany

  • Devil's Bridge
This looks like something that is so unreal. The bridge reflects on the surface of the water below creating what appears to be a full circle. Albeit, it looks perfect. Another one of the reasons why I yearn to go here is due to the green plant life that surrounds the bridge. This destination will end up being like the Swiss Alps. I will have to travel here in the summer, fall, winter, and spring months. I just love to see how the world changes as the seasons progress. While seasons are a sign of time passing, it is also such a beautiful thing to see. Colors change, creating a whole new perspective of things. I picture these color changes creating the perfect background behind the bridge to make a perfect photoshoot of time passing by.

Switzerland

  • Swiss Cheese Factory
I love Swiss Cheese. It is without a doubt my favorite cheese of all time. There is just something so different, yet delicious about this cheese. Some may say that it is strange, but I thing opposite. I love the imported Swiss Cheese that came directly from Switzerland. Authentic Swiss Cheese is so much better. I would love to actually visit a Swiss factory that makes this cheese. I do not eat chocolate at all, but I eat a lot of Swiss cheese, which means that Swiss cheese is my chocolate. From personal research I have heard of a few of these cheese factories. One day I will make my way to one so I can see how my favorite cheese is made.

Germany

  • Bayerische Motoren Werke (BMW) Museum
There will be a lot of museums featured on this list. While driving in itself is very fun, it is also equally as enjoyable to see the history behind these vehicles. The BMW museum is located in München, Germany. The reason why I want to go here is to dive deeper into Germany's car history and why they make unique cars. BMW does not just display modern cars, but rather, they display older models to show the evolution of cars. From studying Germany, it is evident that they love cars. There is no doubt that Germans love achieving amazing feats with cars as well. I like traveling back in time as much as they love their cars. Museums are the greatest way to be transported into the past.

Germany

  • Audi Museum
Located in Germany as well, the Audi museum offers the same thing as the BMW and Volkswagen ones. The showcase of cars looks amazing. I like Audi as well. They do make nice cars from what I have been able to see. Once again, I love museums because they transport us back to the past. Seeing the evolution of cars is something that has just recently interested me. It is along the same lines as my passion for aviation. These museums seems to have a lot to offer that I would be elated to see and learn about.

Austria

  • Vienna
Vienna -Wien in German- has a lot of history to offer. Wien is the capital of Austria. Austria in German is often referred to as Österreich. I would love to visit all of the local sites and see what they have to offer. Visiting the local universities, cathedrals, palaces, and more is on my bucket list.

Germany

  • Technik Museum
This museum features both the Tupolev and the Concorde. These were supersonic planes back in the era of supersonic jet travel. Since the cost of fuel was too much, these planes unfortunately met an early retirement. However, at the Technik museum they allow people to walk through these planes. As an aviation enthusiast and future pilot this is something that I really want to see.

These are truly only a few things that I want to do in these countries. There are so many things to do in these countries and I cannot wait to travel to them.
"But before I die, I want to visit heaven on earth: Switzerland."
-Govind Maheshwari
Quotes often give me a lot of inspiration to add a place to a bucket list. This quote just confirmed that Switzerland needs to be at the top of my bucket list.
"Fernweh"
German meaning the yearning to travel to a far away place.
Along with the sites of these countries the language of German also has some beautiful words. Fernweh is one of those.
"Travel not to escape life, but so life does not escape you."
-Unknown
I would love to hear about more things to see and do in these wonderful countries. Any ideas? Please comment below.
